FAQ

Does AKD have any dues?
Yes, we require a $30 initiation fee, which will go towards your cord/sash, national chapter initiation fees, induction certificate, and induction ceremony. Afterwards, we require a $15 annual due in order to maintain your membership in the national chapter.

What are the responsibilities as a member? Is it a big commitment?
AKD is meant to be a more low-maintenance commitment. It is driven by the needs and desires of sociology students, so our events will revolve around that. To stay an active member, AKD members must attend at least two meetings or events every semester.

What are some of the events you plan to have?
Again, the events we hold will be determined by what our members also desire! At the moment, we plan to hold coffee chats between younger and older majors to answer questions and disseminate advice, a movie night, group study sessions, and an formal/induction ceremony. AKD is meant to be a social and academic honor society, which means our events will have a broad range.

How can we become a member?
Check our “Eligibility” page to see if you qualify and the instructions on how to join.
I’m a sociology minor – can I also become a member?
Unfortunately, our chapter is only accepting Sociology majors at this time.

I’m interested in becoming a board member. How can I apply?
Applications to become part of the AKD Board will open in April. The application will be posted here and sent to our current members.

What if I’m just below the GPA minimum? Can I still join?
If you can demonstrate a strong desire to become a part of AKD and a commitment to continue improving, we will review your situation on a case by case basis.
